Vent Hood Quick Checklist

We can help decide what vent hood is best for your operation. Before you buy, consult with us and we'll make sure you are getting what you need. Here are a a few things you will need to take into consideration before making a commercial grease hood purchase.

How tall is your ceiling?

Vent hoods are typically 24" tall and are installed at 6'6" above the finish floor. If you have a finished ceiling below 8'6" then you will need a special type of hood that has a smaller front side to allow for the clearance. Let us know if this is your situation. We can quote you on a vent hood for this type of application.

Do you have a non combustible wall?

Often overlooked is the fact that many city codes will not allow for commercial vent hoods to be installed on walls that are made up of combustible materials such as wood studs. Even if you're allowed to install it on a wood stud wall it is almost certain that the requirement will call for the wall to have a minimum of a 2 hour fire rating. Also make sure you are clear of wood cabinetry in the kitchen. You need a minimum of 18" clearance from the cooking equipment and the vent hood on any combustible material.

How much room is in the attic space?

Remember that often ducts need to run parallel to the ceiling to clear rafters or beams. Making sure you have adequate space to run your duct is imperative. Let us know what your clearance is and we can help you with the sizing of the duct.

What is your roof pitch?

Determining your roof pitch is important in getting your fan flashing or roof curbs correctly installed. You want the exhaust and make-up air fans to be level to the ground and not tilt over from extreme roof pitches. We can fabricate curbs for you to handle a variety of roof pitches.

Are you using a char broiler?

High heat equipment like gas char broilers and wok ranges require more CFM for the exhaust. Let us know what you have under the hood to determine the proper amount of exhaust. Doing this will ensure that your vent hood captures all of the grease and smoke without spilling out into your kitchen.

We can size your vent hood, duct work, and fans for you before you buy. We'll ask the questions you must have answered in order to make sure you are getting the right vent hood. If you let us educate you , then you will avoid being stuck with a vent hood that doesn't work correctly or does not pass inspection.
