Did you know that the history of the Champagne region of France from which champagne comes from has a history of wild grape vines growing up to 1 million years ago?  Fossil records show that grape vines have been growing in this region long before humans inhabited the area!  However, the reputation of Champagne (the region and the sparkling wine) has even been documented as early as 92 C.E. It was in that year that the Emperor Domitian decreed all of France's vineyards uprooted, including Champagne, because it was competition for Italy's vineyards.  He later rescinded this decree and Champagne again flourished! The history is amazing and once you know the long and sometimes cantankerous past that Champagne has, you will understand why this is truly the drinks of King's and Queen's!
