Strainers, Mesh Strainers, Colanders, Stainless Steel Strainers
A strainer or colander is a type of sieve (separates wanted elements from unwanted elements using mesh, net, or other filtration methods) used in cooking to separate liquids from solids. They are usually made of a light metal such as aluminum or stainless steel. Stainless steel strainers are more common and resist corrosion better. The colander, which is shaped like an inverted dome, is covered in a pattern of small holes that allow the liquid to drain while holding the solids in the sieve.
